IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Yujin Mikotoba
Species: Human
Canon: The Great Ace Attorney
Canon Point: post-canon
Character Age: 43
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: here
Powers and Abilities:
Yujin is a doctor and professor of forensic pathology, a sharp investigative assistant, and a particularly excellent tap dancer. Additionally, he has some basic hand-to-hand abilities and is familiar with the use of firearms circa 1900, though neither skill could be considered above average. Otherwise, he's a perfectly ordinary human man with no superhuman abilities.
What Did Your Character Wish For? That he could have spent more time in London before sailing back to Japan.
What Potion Did They Receive? Cerulean
Did They Drink It? Nope. He's been studying poisons for a hot second and he does NOT trust like that. Someone convince him...!
Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Without question, the person Yujin is most closely bonded to is Herlock Sholmes-- Yujin is his Watson, after all! For 6 years, the two lived as flatmates in 221B Baker Street and solved mysteries together as investigative partners, sharing the highs and lows of a very pivotal moment in both of their lives. Yujin even continues to call 221B "our home", 10 years after he's moved out for good. Though their time as flatmates is over, they've kept in touch via regular letters and telegrams over the last decade, each considering the other his greatest friend. They still talk about cases from a distance, going so far as to share state secrets with each other. Herlock even became Iris Wilson's father because of Yujin. When he was ordered to leave Japan, he trusted no one but Herlock to care for her, and Herlock adopted her without question and has been raising the girl ever since. It's safe to say that they are completely different people for having met and grown together. There's no one that Yujin trusts and relies upon more than Herlock: their friendship is as strong as it always has been, and when they reunite in canon, their chemistry is so natural it's as though no time has passed at all.
2. What are they most afraid of?
Yujin's greatest fear is the loss of his loved ones. Though, ironically, he's made death his profession as a forensic pathologist, grief has followed Yujin for years. His wife Ayame's death in childbirth profoundly affected him as a young man, and he dealt with his pain by very literally running away from it to study abroad in London. He's since made amends with the daughter he left behind, but his fear remains, making him incredibly protective of Susato. He also still feels guilt over the death of Genshin Asogi, as he was unable to stop him from being falsely accused of being a serial killer. As with Susato, he's protective over Genshin's son Kazuma, who is his ward-- however, he's also secretive and hid the truth from the young man, for fear he would seek it out himself. So many of his worst choices are rooted either in this fear of loss or his guilt over not being able to save people he cared about.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
Many of Yujin's emotional weaknesses are actually a downside to his greatest emotional strengths. He's loyal to a fault and always keeps his word, which makes him easy to take advantage if someone takes the time to manipulate him-- his loyalty to his old friend Seishiro Jigoku, for example, kept Yujin from suspecting his darker intentions until they were completely undeniable. He is protective of those he loves, which can lead him to become overprotective or detrimentally secretive.
Yujin's mental hangups are mostly psychological! He has a tendency to blame himself or be self-deprecating when things go wrong-- sometimes, but not always warranted-- and he's carrying a lot of survivor's guilt from the amount of people he's lost in his life. He's also had a history of avoiding his problems by running from them or simply covering them up. Finally, Yujin describes himself as being "less dependable than befits a grown man" after his wife's death, to the point of worrying his friends, implying that his grief teetered into actual depression at one point in his life.
Finally, Yujin is a physically average 43-year-old man. He's not entirely out of shape, but he's also not capable of any remarkable physical feats and won't be as quick on his feet as he was as a younger man.
4. What would make them happiest?
Meeting his full potential! Being a professor and a father in Japan is fulfilling for him, yes, but Yujin shines brightest when he's at Herlock's side, solving mysteries and, frankly, getting a little bit silly with it. But as much as it is about being with his best friend, a lot of this also comes from Yujin's desire to sometimes have a break from his routine and to do some out-of-the-box things that challenge him and free him from the demands of being an academic, a diplomat, and so on. His happiest life is one where he can be there for his daughter and foster son, meet his professional goals as a professor and researcher, and continue to do Watson Shenanigans from time to time.
5. What’s their type for a lover?
Yujin's type is someone he can truly be himself around! Though he's kind and capable, he needs to be able to let go and be vulnerable around someone who won't judge him for it-- and, in fact, will encourage him to be flawed or reckless or messy if it's right in the moment. As someone who's been betrayed and hurt before, trust and loyalty are huge for Yujin. This doesn't mean, however, that he wants someone who agrees with him all the time. He really values when a partner isn't afraid to call him out or disagree, so long as they can come together in each others' best interests and compromise at the end of the day. Finally, he's drawn to quirky people who go against the grain of society and are ready to challenge him to see life from another perspective.
also if this person isn't already Herlock Sholmes they have to be cool with him or it's a dealbreaker
