Per RN: "Allegedly, the previous crew had actually succeeded in gathering all the orbs up, but were betrayed by some of their own before they could see their regrets undone." He theorizes that something was returned from this crew's last planet to corrupt the ship and disperse the orbs. [Along the edge of this line, in a new pen:] See V note. If we hadn't done that, if he hadn't done that, all of you would be dead already."
