What we did on the station for our birthdays would be sufficient. Card games, board games, the like. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what other games would be appropriate for this time, but perhaps the locals will suggest some ideas if any of them attend.
As for the gift, I don't think it would be rude to ask. You wouldn't want to get her something she doesn't like, after all.

in the meantime it should be pretty easy to shop for cards and board games
